(I've seen you mention this show in "honorable mention" ranking before, Stratocaster, i'm pretty sure anyway...sure at least you're well aware of this show--what are your thoughts on it?)

i am well aware of this show, one of the first shows that I had on CD...I like the show alot, actually gave the whole thing a listen to after I wrote in this post this morning...I may go to other shows in 1977 for better versions of some of the tunes but it's a great show nonetheless...for instance, I'd take 09-03-1977 Eyes over 10-29-1977 any day of the week and and the 10-11-1977 Let It Grow, but I actually think that some of the "lesser" tunes are better represented, paint peeling Loser and super tight FOTD...

my 1977 list would go probably like this...

02-26, 03-19, 05-08, 05-09, 06-07, 06-09, 09-03, 10-02, 10-11, 10-29, 11-04, 11-05, 12-29, 12-31...with 05-08, 09-03 and maybe 06-09 as my big 3...

Stratocaster,

I have too much respect for your GD knowledge to quibble, ...and I'm going to have to give another listen to the EYES you listed (which is the Dix Pix Englishtown show, yes?) to see what we're hearing differently.

It's funny, b/c of all the tunes I love so much from 10/29/77, that EYES is my absolute pinnacle favorite. Just one of those subjective things, I suppose. For me, it's the relaxed tempo (i tend not to favor the speed-demon versions b/c I like to take in and savior every note Jerry plays), and the changes it goes through leading up to the jam before the final vwerse--which to me--it;'s not just Jerry--it's the whole band cresting over the same wave and building and building into this perfect crash-down of sound and fury....i get excited (obviously) just thinking about it.

But i agree a lot of the gems in 10/29 are in the songs you might often pass over--like that FOTD, or the Might as Well, or the Let it Grow--which ironically many people rave about (it IS great) but for me, is not an all time favorite version (i go to 5/1/81 for that LIG)...

at any rate, as long as 10/29 gets into your Top Range of '77 picks, I have no axe to grind! It's such a brilliant year, it's really hard to say one show completely outshines all others (not for ME, of course .... ;-)

Now, i'll have to listen to that Englishtown EYES again and get back to you...

p.s. One last point about 10/29--Have you EVER, in your extensive knowledge of shows--heard Mickey & Billy do what they do at the end of SugarMags before the SSDD coda? I mean, CLEARLY, these guys were hopped up and on fire that night!
